I am Going out for a fun night! Would you join me?

Have you watched images of famine in Africa and wished you could do something to help? Have you ever cried at the sight of children and families swept away by tsunamis in Japan or Southeast Asia? Have you found yourself seeking a way to do something but feel that you are too far removed? Perhaps you have looked at those families in Slave Lake Alberta who lost everything to fire and wondered if there was a way to help them through their tough time. When you watch a family in Manitoba whose house has been ruined because the Red River washed it away, have you asked how you can make a difference?I am sure that you have been exasperated at the thought of how overwhelming the need is and how small we sometimes feel.  I want us to remember what Mother Teresa said – “We can do no great things, only small things with great love.” I want to share with you an opportunity to do a small thing with great love.

I have a very simple way for you to actually make a big difference in all of those situations. Join me on Wednesday October 05 for an evening of wonderful song from world class performers at All Saints Church in Windsor. The Three Cantors: Peter Wall, William Cliff and David Pickett are Canadian Anglican Priests who, with accompanist Maestro Angus Sinclair, sing to benefit The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (Huron Hunger Fund), which seeks lasting solutions to world hunger through sustainable development. Peter Wall is actually a former rector of St. Mark’s by-the-Lake. These four devout Anglicans have sold thousands of CDs and performed across the country and on national radio and TV. These are 3 capable singers whose voices blend beautifully with versatility and skill. Their concerts are a tour-de-force of everything from beloved music of the church, contemporary anthems, spirituals, and new, original compositions, to folk songs and the best of Broadway. Each time these four entertain, they help the lives of countless people around the world who are struggling. Each time someone buys a ticket to hear them perform that person is making a difference in the world. The Three Cantors have raised over $1 million dollars for relief all over this world. Each dollar they have raised has made a difference and each dollar came from people like you and me who had to do nothing more than ‘endure’ a night of enjoyment. Peter, Bill, David, and Angus are a gift to the church because they have helped us as a church make considerable difference in a world which is crying in need. We all yearn to help. Help does not always have to be complex. We cannot all put on a backpack and head off to the latest devastated area of our plant. But we are all very capable to paying $18 (free parking is available) to enjoy ourselves in comfort and know that we are doing something to support the outreach work of the church. I can’t believe that it has been 11 years ago that we hosted a Three Cantors Concert. Many of you who were around in those days will remember that we hosted it at St. Anne’s Church here in Tecumseh to make room for the hundreds who wanted to enjoy that show. For many of you it has been that long since you have enjoyed this tremendous group, now is the time to fill beautiful All Saints in City Hall Square. I want to commend the people of All Saints for hosting this event to assist with the outreach work of PWRDF. As church we need to support one another in our endeavours. Let’s join our friends at All Saints showing our love and support to the ministry of outreach in the church. Let us heed the advice of Unitarian Edward Everett Hale; “I am only one, but I am one.  I cannot do everything, but I can do something.  And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.”

You can get tickets for the concert by calling our Church Office at 519 735 4921 or by emailing Jane Cornett at janecornett@yahoo.com

I hope you can join me in doing something profound to make a difference in the world – having a great night out!

  1. I will be thrilled to hear the Three Tenors again. And also in enjoying the music to help raise money for the Primate’s relief fund. I first heard the Three Tenors at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian a few years ago. Friends invited me and bought the CD for me. I will alert other friends to join us. Are the tickets with Jane? Can people buy tickets at the door? What time is the performance? Details, man.
