It is hard for me to believe but the ‘big run’ is tomorrow. Unbelievably the weeks have flown by. It seemed running sixty seconds was a BIG challenge 9 weeks ago but now I am ready to take on 5 km. Tomorrow marks the ‘moon in June’ run which raises money for WE Care for Kids. As they support the John McGivney Center I thought this would be a great way to support a charity that is named after one of our own 8 o’clockers, John McGivney.
To-date your sponsors total over $2800. If you intended to sponsor me but have not yet had the chance, it is NOT too late. Just email the amount you wish to pledge to me at canonkevingeorge@gmail.com – it would be great to reach $3000! If you have sponsored me and have not yet paid but would like to, please be in touch as well and we will arrange to collect your monies. Allow me to say a huge THANK YOU to all of you for your support for this charity and for me in my goal. As many of you know I am working on getting healthier and looking to help a very worthy cause at the same time. This week I was able to run the Lakeshore Park in Chicago – As I took in my beautiful surroundings, I could not believe that I was able to do it. I have a long way to go, but I am conscious that I have also made great progress. For those that are counting, I have a goal to loose 50 lbs. I have lost 20 in training to help WE Care for Kids.
So I charge on in getting ready for tomorrow buoyed up by the love and support of a great cloud of witnesses, who have shown their support in pledge and in prayer. I move forward keeping before me the words from the Letter to the Hebrews:
“So then let’s also run the race that is laid out in front of us, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us. Let’s throw off any extra baggage, get rid of the sin that trips us up, 2 and fix our eyes on Jesus, faith’s pioneer and perfecter. He endured the cross, ignoring the shame, for the sake of the joy that was laid out in front of him, and sat down at the right side of God’s throne.”
