Winston Church one famously proclaimed that “There is no finer investment for any community than putting milk into babies.” This holds true to even today. Perhaps more than ever we need to heed these words.
This Sunday the people of St. Mark’s by-the-Lake will take up the call to see to it that babies are fed. The Salvation Army’s Eastwood Citadel has a Neighbourhood Services Program that supplies families in need with formula. In Windsor-Essex the number of people that we have in need continues to grow and whatever help we can provide will make a difference. There are single mom’s who are surviving on little income who often find themselves faced with the cost to buying formula. One can of powdered formula cost $25. If a mother or a father is ill-equipped to purchase the formula needed, babies are not nourished properly. There is no greater investment for our community than putting formula into babies.
We have made arrangements with the Shoppers Drug Mart on Ottawa Street to purchase formula at a discounted price as we will order a lot at once. Envelopes are available at the church if you wish to donate toward this very worthy cause. You will be receipted for your gift. If you wish to purchase the formula you can drop it by on or before Sunday’s church services. This week we will welcome Major Ralph Young from Eastwood as our guest.

We look forward to this Sunday with excitement as we know that we will be doing God’s work by helping young families in need. Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. The Kingdom of God is made up of children like these” (Matt. 19:14). Knowing that we are called to serve even the smallest among us we look forward to doing what we can to assist in this great endeavour.
How can you help?
- Pick up an envelope at the church (or use one from home) to make a donation. We have a purchase arrangement with a local business whereby we can but formula at a reduced rate, thereby getting more for your money. If you do not live in Windsor-Essex and would like to send along a donation, please do so. We will issue a tax receipt for all donations over $20. Mail donations (Cheques) to:
St. Mark’s by-the-Lake
150 St. Mark’s Rd
Tecumseh ON
N8N 2H4 - If you prefer, pick up the formula yourself. Any brand is good. We just call this Similac Sunday because it sounds nice. You can drop formula off anytime between 9 am and noon Mon-Fri between now and October 3. Or you can bring your formula to church between now and then.
- You may not be able to afford to help financially. That is perfectly ok. You can still make a difference. Join us in prayer for the work of the Salvation Army on October 3. You do not need to be in this area to join us, say a prayer of thanksgiving wherever you are. If you are in this area please join us!
So Pray for us on October 03.
Salaam, Shalom, Peace,
Kevin
