Join us for Christmas Eve

It is here – finally here…Christmas Eve.

This is the time when we celebrate the fact that darkness does not have dominion over us – Light has dispelled darkness.

The prophet Isaiah proclaims, "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness on them light has shined. You have multiplied the nation, you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as people exult when dividing plunder. For the yoke of their burden, and the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian."

Darkness has been divided by Light which chooses to dwell among us. Imagine that – God chooses to be one with us. Just as that Light was delivered in the darkness of a stinking barn, so too Jesus chooses to enter into the darkest corners of our realities. In all the hoopla that surrounds this great feast day it is easy to lose sight of the deep and abiding truth that we celebrate: God is with us! Our pains, our joy, our sorrows, our celebrations, are all realities that God knows intimately because Light chooses to dwell among us. How wonderful is that?

I hope and pray that you can find time to celebrate and worship with a faith community tonight or tomorrow. If you are in the Windsor area come and celebrate at St. Mark’s by-the-Lake. We will be together at church tonight with lots of joy and fun for the children at 7:30 PM. We will come together again for a celebration of Christmas at 10:30 PM. Can’t make Christmas Eve, fear not…you can join us on Christmas Day at 10:00 AM as we celebrate together the birthday of our Saviour – and as an added bonus, the first 100 people receive a gift. May you all have a blessed and holy Christmas Season!
