The last week has been very interesting to say the least. On Saturday we had our Yard Sale at the church and it was a great thrill to see the people from the community move through our doors. It was an overwhelming success and I offer my gratitude to all who worked so hard to make such a wonderful day. In a short while you will be able to view pictures of the day on www.stmarkschurch.net.
But the real surprise on Saturday came when Catherinanne called from Pearson Airport on the return from Halifax. She had run into Shirley and Alfred Sutton who were parishioners of ours in Labrador City. They now live in Baie D’Espoir, Newfoundland and were on their way to London for a two day visit. It was a shock. We had not seen or talked to them in nearly 9 years. So Sunday we travelled to London and I forwent the Synod Service and the Ordination that was taking place in Hamilton to reconnect with old friends as we broke bread together. It was a good day and I was so happy that The Holy Spirit moved and we had opportunity to reconnect. It was really as if we had never missed a beat.
Synod has been very tame this year. Not a lot of controversy and very little in terms of beefy motions. It was good to be present to share the last two days with our delegates Bob, Mark and Ray. Making it extra special was the fact that Catherinanne is here – having been without her for the last three weeks it has been to be here together. Our time is precious as she will depart again soon for a another stint of Chaplaincy with the Navy.
Friday is fast approaching and I wait with anticipation for my roasting. Through the hard work of Stacy Adam the parish has planned a Roast to celebrate my 10 years of ordained ministry. I am the victim and I must say it appears as though there is a healthy lineup of folks to have a shot at me. If you do not already have tickets and would like to come along please be in touch via email or call the parish office ASAP.
(I wrote everything previous on Tuesday at Synod)
After leaving Synod we received news that Catherinanne’s sister Mary-Therese had given birth to a beautiful little girl. We were thrilled to be able to go by and see a special piece of God’s Creation. Abbey was wonderful – and he Mom was remarkable. Having just given birth a few hours earlier she looked like a million dollars. We were happy to get pictures and some video and I made a little move which you can view by clicking the arrow below. (Turn off the music up top first)
Back to the grind these past two days and I anxiously await the Roasting Tomorrow night. I am most thrilled knowing that there will be good funds raised for St. Mark’s by the Lake. For that reason – I can take a good ribbing! BRING IT ON!
