EACH PART COMPLIMENTS THE OTHER
AND BOTH ARE ESSENTIAL IF I AM
TO FULFILL THAT PURPOSE.
ALL OF US HAVE BEEN GIVEN TALENTS,
ABILITIES AND INNER RESOURCES.
MAY WE USE THESE GIFTS WELL.
YOUR RULES ARE MY GUIDING LIGHT.
MAY I REMEMBER MY POSITION ON YOUR
TEAM, GOD, TODAY AND ALWAYS.
The Flying Fathers have been entertaining large crowds of people for years. They bring together Faith, Fun and Fundraising. They have raised nearly $4 Million Dollars for various charities. The prayer above speaks to their faithfulness and their sense of duty to God.
I bring this up today because tomorrow is a big day at St. Mark’s by-the-Lake. It is our 5th annual Hockey Jersey Sunday at St. Mark’s by-the-Lake. It is a fun and tongue in cheek, but it is also a great celebration of God’s presence in all things – even in our fun and play. The Flying Fathers have been reminding us of that for a long time. If you have ever been to one of their games you certainly laughed – a lot!
So what happens at Hockey Jersey Sunday? Well we all wear something Hockey is we can and if we can’t, we don’t. But generally there is a healthy number of Hockey Sweaters in the congregation and in the choir and on the priest. Everyone takes the opportunity to show off their team colours. We may have a prayer or two that fits the occasion and the sermon will certainly touch on the subject as well. But other than that it is a regular Anglican Celebration of the Eucharist.
This year the Children’s Story will be offered by Tony Doucette, host of the 1550 CBC Radio Early Shift. Tony has also been a sport broadcaster and is an avid Toronto Maple Leafs Fan – but I like him anyway. We look forward to welcoming Today this week.
So put on something Hockey and come on out to St. Mark’s by-the-Lake this Sunday. We look forward to seeing which team enjoys the most support. Church is at 8 AM and 10:30 AM! Check out the photos below from HJS Past. This Video Below is some Great Memories of the Great One – 99. It is a good one. Pause the Music up tope before you play it.
