I’m Back to the blog. My apologies for the long time between posts. Seems as though this week has brought one flurry of activity after the next. It all was brought to a point of great excitement last night with our largest fundraiser of the year. The 7th annual Steak BBQ and Celebrity Auction was a great success. Each year we are thrilled to have the support of so many businesses and so many individuals. There were over 250 people in the room last night all there in support of St. Mark’s by-the-Lake. Over 160 businesses or individuals donated items for auction.
Last night we hear Gates Brown of the 1968 and 1984 World Champion Tigers. He told us of his time with the Tigers and of how he overcame a lot to get to where he was – in many ways it sounds as though the Tigers saved him. In fact he was in prison serving 15-20 when he was signed.
We were delighted to have Keith White as our auctioneer and to have the support of the Circle of 7 Charity group. By all accounts it was a great night that to date has grossed over $23 000. It is always exciting to see people battling for the many great items.
So many worked so hard. I want to thank Rob Agnew, Dave and Lynne Hornby, Scott Shields, Janet Forster, Jerry Pardy, John and Jean Anderson, Mark and Sally Charlton, Christian Paulton, Bob Cooper, Stewart and Thea Dawson, and Bud Piercell for all of the assistance in making a wonderful night. There are so many others who helped in so many ways, too many to number. Thank you to everyone who helped in any way.
Thos morning I was with the kids for first communion class. We talked about baptism and had the kids play all of the important parts in the service – the Mom the Dad, the Godparents, and the priest. The baby was a little girl (doll). The kids were great and are a great reminder of how much God is love and how much that love is shown in the lives and witness of kids. I thank them all for a great morning.
Looking forward to a great day at church tomorrow. If you are in this part of the world – join us!
