UPDATE – Gerber Daisies for Haiti

 UPDATE (LATE ON JUNE19) – AFTER WRITING THE BLOG BELOW YOU ARE ODERING FROM THIS PAGE – THAT IS GREAT. I THINK WE HAVE A CHANCE OF SELLING 200 PLANTS. THAT WOULD MEAN $1600 FOR WORK IN HAITI. WE ARE CURRENTLY AT 122 OR SO. IF YOU HAVE NOT ORDERED EMAIL ME – IF YOU HAVE AND YOU WANT MORE – EMAIL ME! KEEP THE ORDERS COMING AND I WILL KEEP YOU ALL POSTED ON HOW WE ARE DOING. Hearts Together for Haiti is an organization that has its roots here in Windsor. It has done great work in building schools and providing hope in villages that are struggling in Haiti. Fr. John Duarte is the president of this great organization. He is a priest with strong feelings about justice and the plight of the poor. He was, at one time, at St. Gregory the Great down the street. That parish has a strong affiliation with HTFH as a result. We at St. Mark’s by the Lake have in turn had a relationship with HTFH as we have done projects together. Each spring one of their great fundraisers is a Gerber daisy sale. All of the funds raised go to the work of HTFH. Last year our parish bought the flowers for the first time. They are so bog and such wonderful plants. We bought over 100 plants and helped make the Gerber Daisy Sale a great success. Today Rick Heath was at our church on behalf of HTFH taking orders. Again he sold over 100 plants which far exceeded what he sold at St. Greg’s which will have an average attendance 8 times our size. That is a great testament to the sense of care, support and mission we have at the parish. Many thanks go to Rick for coming out and giving us a chance to participate in the good work of HTFH. The plants will all be in this week and Rick will be in touch with all of you who ordered about pick up next week. If you did not get the chance to order but would like to order please give me a call at the church office or email me at revykevy@cogeco.net. I will see to it that you can get a daisy or two or three. They are $9 each or 2 for $16 or Three for $21. Thank you to all of you who ordered plants.
