Join us as we Celebrate the life of Ray Hinton

Ray Hinton at a St. Mark's by-the-Lake New Year's Eve Party Circa 1989

Who forces time is pushed back by time; who yields to time finds time on his side.  ~The Talmud

Yesterday, and today have swept by as if they were leaves dancing in today’s wind.
The expressions of shock on the death of Ray Hinton as well as the groundswell of support offered by the many people in our church community, and indeed in the wider church, have been tremendous.  I have taken the time to read to Marion your many words of kindness and she appreciates them all as do, Michael, Kevin and Stewart.

We do hope to see some of you at these events. Marion continues to do well and is offering her thanks to all of you for your support. I close tonight with these words – they are not my own …..

 Nothing can make up for the absence of someone whom we love,
and it would be wrong to try to find a substitute; we must simply hold out and see it through.

That sounds very hard at first, but at the same time it is a great consolation,
for the gap, as long as it remains unfilled, preserves the bonds between us.
It is nonsense to say that God fills the gap;
God doesn’t fill it, but on the contrary, keeps it empty and so helps us to
keep alive our former communion with each other, even at the cost of pain.

  4. We are still so shocked to think of Ray’s passing. And it is hard to think of Ray and not of Marion at the same time. What a fantastic team they have been for so many years. Ray was truly an gentle man, and one who gave so much of himself for the Church. Many know of the various committees he has lent his gifts to for so many years. What is more remarkable to me is the work he did quietly with Marion to be present to others who may have needed a lift. I know my grandmother, my parents and my family have been the beneficiaries of so many acts of kindness and Christian love over the years. We will certainly miss Ray, and hold Marion and her family in our prayers.

  5. Dear Marion,
    We have heard the shocking news of Ray’s death from several people . As others have said, it is natural to say “Ray and Marion” because you were a team who worked tirelessly to help others. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your sons, sent from my winter home in Arizona. Evelyn Meyer

  6. I just saw this in November 2016. Ray Hinton was a beautiful humble Christian who accepted what came along in life with grace and humour. I loved the sense of “Jesus in him”. We first met at St Andrew’s Harrow where he and Marion came for special ‘Life in the spirit ‘weekends on several cold February Weekends over 4 years at least. His love of God and his delight in our Faith was so evident. I have kept his funeral bulletin because of Marion choice of lovely hymns and because of Ray who strengthened my faith by his example. Thank you God Our Father for your disciple Ray.
